CSG Product Visibility Diagnosis
ANALYTICS AIML Confidential
Prepared for Component Solutions Group · 7 September 2026
Product visibility diagnosis · componentsolutionsgroup.com

The catalog is invisible: 257 product pages earned 47 clicks in 90 days, on a site that earned 6,954.

The site is growing — clicks tripled over 16 months on the strength of the blog programme. The catalog is not: 257 product pages are indexed and Google is showing them (impressions rise after every launch), but they are stubs sitting on a broken category layer, unlinked from the part of the site that carries the authority. Fixing that, not the launches themselves, is the work.

01 · Executive summary

Every stage of the funnel works except the one that makes the catalog rank.

Demand exists, pages get indexed, Google crawls the new launches — and then the trail goes cold at relevance: the pages themselves don't say enough to rank, and nothing on the site that has authority points at them.

Demand
▲ Split

Brand-line demand is small and owned by others (bumax bolts 40/mo, itw nexus buckles 40/mo).

Generic demand is real: threaded inserts 5,400/mo, rivet nuts 3,400/mo — CSG's pages don't target it.

Indexing
● Mostly OK

742 indexed / 575 not; new SKUs confirmed "on Google" via URL Inspection.

But the ITW Nexus buckle category layer has no indexable page — 3 canonicals 404.

Relevance
■ Fail

Primary cause. 0 of 257 product pages carry a spec table, PDF, or Product schema.

Median 179 words; copy is templated across SKUs.

Ranking
▲ Weak

212 product URLs with impressions: 27 at <5, 141 at 5–20, the rest >20.

BUMAX category pos 27 for "bumax"; ITW Nexus category pos 27.9.

CTR
■ Poor

189 of 212 product URLs with impressions got zero clicks.

structural-fasteners: 393 impressions at pos 8.2, 0 clicks.

Conversion
■ No path

0 of 257 product pages carry a form; only CTA is the global "Request a Quote" link.

No price, stock, lead time, MOQ, datasheet or CAD on any product page.

Root causes at a glance

  1. Product pages are stubs, not product pages. Median 179 words; 0 of 257 pages have a spec table, PDF, or Product schema.
  2. The ITW Nexus category architecture is broken. Three category canonicals 404 while still listed in the sitemap.
  3. Duplicate SKUs cannibalise each other. Ten "-2" duplicate slugs; BUMAX split across three URL generations.
  4. The traffic-bearing site never links to the catalog. Only 11 of 273 blog posts link to any product.
  5. Authority gap, and the link growth is the wrong kind. DR 20 vs 27–38 for competitors; new referrers include spam-flagged domains.
  6. Demand and intent are mis-targeted. Launched lines chase 20–70/mo brand terms the brand owners already own.
  7. CTR is poor. Site CTR 0.6%; structural-fasteners gets 393 impressions at pos 8.2 and 0 clicks.
  8. Commercial/conversion signals are poor. 0 of 257 product pages carry a form, price, stock or MOQ.
02 · CSG product performance — newly launched products

Two launches, 69 SKUs, one click in ninety days.

The ITW Nexus buckle launch and the BUMAX re-launch both got impressions from day one. Neither converted a single meaningful click — the demand and the pages never met.

ITW Nexus launch — 5 May 2026, 59 SKUs

3-month GSC: 1 click / 252 impressions / avg position 14.5 across 53 URLs. Not one query for "side release", "cam buckle", "cobra" or "tactical" reaches these pages.

Where BUMAX demand actually lands

GSC, last 3 months, every URL containing "bumax": CSG already earns roughly 8,000 BUMAX impressions and 40 clicks a quarter — but on pages that do not sell, and against six competing CSG URL types for the head term "bumax" (landing, brand, brand-2, category, blog, SKU).

Monthly trend, May 2025 – Aug 2026

The site tripled its clicks in sixteen months on the blog programme. Product-page clicks stayed flat at roughly 15 a month — the 79-click spike in May 2026 was the one-off catalog-launch bump on brand queries, not a trend.

Competitor weaknesses CSG can exploit

07 · Root causes

Eight causes, ranked by impact — none of them is crawlability, speed, or indexing of the new SKUs.

The fixes with the most impact are the ones highest on this list.

01
Insufficient product content · weak keyword targeting
Product pages are stubs, not product pages
  • All 257 product pages are under 300 words (median 179; new SKUs median 156, 26 under 150).
  • Zero pages have a spec table, PDF datasheet, Product schema, price, or stock/lead-time.
  • Copy is templated: /products/gt/gtzp/ and /products/gt/gt-zip-line/ open with the identical sentence; BUMAX SKUs repeat "Selection depends on the size, thread, length…".
  • 46 product pages share duplicate meta descriptions describing CSG, not the product; 30+ ITW buckle SKUs share another template.
  • Every product page has images without alt text.
Google ranks the page that answers the engineer's spec question; CSG's page answers none of them.
02
Indexing/canonical problems · poor product/category architecture
The ITW Nexus category architecture is broken
  • /products/cam-buckles/, /specialty-buckles/, /sr-buckles/, /gt/, /d-rings/, /ladderloc/ all declare canonical to /products/itw-nexus/<category>/ — three of those targets 404 while still submitted in the sitemap.
  • /products/itw-nexus/gt/ 301-redirects to a single product page.
  • No indexable category page exists for the whole specialty-buckles line (23 SKUs).
  • 32 of 40 category pages have no meta description; 30 still carry the default "<Name> Archives" title; median category copy is 66 words.
No indexable category page exists for the whole specialty-buckles line — Google can't rank what returns 404.
03
Indexing/canonical · architecture
Duplicate SKUs cannibalise each other
  • Ten products exist twice under "-2" slugs (bumax-lock, bumax-ultra, bumax-dx, threaded-rods, thread-forming-screw, d-rings, low-pro-dual-bar-d-ring, gtsr-waveloc-body, gtsr-ladderloc-latch, gtsr-ladderloc-body).
  • BUMAX exists in three generations: January "stainless" pages, February "bumax" category set, June re-adds.
  • GSC: "bumax" lands on /products/bumax/ at pos 34.7 while /products/bumax/bumax-88/ sits at pos 39.6 and /products/stainless/bumax-88-109/ also competes.
  • /bumax-fasteners/ earns 23 clicks / 4,937 impressions at pos 8.6 but links to zero BUMAX SKUs; six CSG URL types (landing, brand, brand-2, category, blog, SKU) compete for "bumax".
A weak signal split across two or three URLs ranks nowhere; competitors consolidate theirs into one.
04
Weak internal linking · new pages lacking authority
The traffic-bearing site never links to the catalog
  • The blog earns 83% of clicks (5,763 of 6,954), yet only 11 of 273 posts link to any product or category.
  • 254 of 257 product pages have zero links from the blog; all 69 new SKUs have zero.
  • Median content-area inbound links per product = 3; the home page links to 13 product URLs.
  • No product URL appears in Ahrefs' top 50 pages by traffic or top 50 organic keywords; product pages have 0 referring domains.
Google discovers the pages but nothing on the site tells it they matter — no authority passed in.
05
Weak backlinks / topical authority
Authority gap, and the link growth is the wrong kind
  • DR 20 vs 27–38 for the sites that outrank the product lines.
  • Referring domains grew +370 in six months, mostly directories and link-sellers, several SPAM-flagged.
  • Home page: 95 dofollow vs 479 nofollow links.
  • Est. organic traffic 1.3K/mo, all of it on the blog; topical authority exists for thread engineering, not buckles or stainless fasteners.
Competitors carry 7–18 more DR points and page-level referring domains; CSG's product pages have none.
06
Weak keyword targeting / search-intent alignment
Demand and intent are mis-targeted
  • Launched lines target 20–70/mo brand terms owned by the brand owners and by McMaster-Carr, Amazon, eBay, Accu, Rockywoods, Strapworks.
  • Half the BUMAX category's impressions are German ("bumax schrauben", "bumax katalog").
  • "military buckles" (50/mo) returns belt-buckle retailers — the tactical buyer searches "side release buckle" (500), "cobra buckle" (1,100), "cam buckle" (400), none of which any CSG page targets.
CSG targets brand terms the brand owners already own; buyers search application terms CSG doesn't target.
07
Poor SERP CTR
CTR is poor for products, as it is site-wide
  • Site CTR 0.6% (the July diagnosis already called CTR compression the main site-level lever).
  • Titles like "GTZP | CSG" and metas describing CSG rather than the part.
  • /products/structural-fasteners/ 393 impressions at pos 8.2, 0 clicks; /products/ 1,460 impressions at pos 13, 2 clicks; raised-countersunk-head-screw-with-phillips 287 impressions at 9.8, 0 clicks.
Even where CSG ranks, templated titles and metas give the searcher no reason to click.
08
Poor commercial signals
Commercial / conversion signals are absent
  • No product page shows price, MOQ, stock, lead time, certifications, or a form; the CTA is the global "Request a Quote" link.
  • Competitors put an RFQ/sample form on the page (SPIROL, JHP, Captive Fastener, E-Z LOK, Accu).
  • Case studies: 36 pages, 3 clicks. Organic leads are not measured in GA4 — only the Ads-imported conversion is a key event.
Competitor pages give the buyer a way to act on the page; CSG sends them to a generic contact link.

Not the cause: crawlability/robots (all 257 product pages 200, self-canonical, index-follow); page speed (not assessed, not needed to explain zero clicks); indexing of the new SKUs (confirmed on Google).

08 · Quick wins

Twelve pages already rank 5–20; eleven more get impressions and nothing else.

These need a rewrite, not a rebuild — and the blog already has the authority the catalog needs, if it is wired in.

Cheap technical fixes

  1. Link every BUMAX grade and SKU from /bumax-fasteners/ (pos 8.6, 4,937 impressions) and 301 /brand-bumax/ into /brands/bumax/.
  2. Fix the six buckle category canonicals and remove/redirect the three 404 category URLs from the sitemap.
  3. 301 the ten "-2" duplicates to one canonical SKU each.
  4. Write the 32 missing category meta descriptions and replace the 30 "Archives" titles.
  5. Replace the 46 duplicate product metas.

Ranked by impact — the category rebuild is the only lever that reaches four-figure monthly demand.

01

Rebuild the 40 category pages as the commercial landing pages

Problem

Category pages are 45–120-word WooCommerce archives with default titles and no meta, yet they are where the real demand lands.

Evidence

Median 66 words, 32/40 no meta description, 30 "X Archives" titles; threaded-inserts 57 words vs 5,400/mo demand; rivet-nuts-studs 68 words vs 3,400/mo; compression-limiters 55 words at pos 48.6 while SPIROL ranks #1 with 3,316 words.

Action

Write a 600–1,200-word buyer page per category (selection criteria, materials/finishes/standards, size range table, industries, stock/VMI note, FAQ + FAQPage schema, on-page RFQ) with a keyword-led title. Start with threaded-inserts, rivet-nuts-studs, clinch-nuts, compression-limiters, military-tactical-hardware, bumax, structural-fasteners.

Expected impact

The only lever that reaches four-figure monthly demand; page-1 on 3 of 7 terms would exceed the entire catalog's current 16-month clicks in a month.

02

Fix the ITW Nexus category canonical/404 chain

Problem

The live buckle category pages canonicalise to URLs that 404 or redirect.

Evidence

specialty-buckles, cam-buckles, sr-buckles canonicalise to 404s still in the sitemap; /products/itw-nexus/gt/ 301s to one product; GSC shows 157 404s, 114 redirect pages, 70 redirect errors.

Action

Choose one URL per category (the short /products/<category>/ form already used), make it self-canonical, 301 the itw-nexus/* variants to it, regenerate and resubmit the sitemap.

Expected impact

Gives the 59-SKU launch an indexable category page for the first time — a prerequisite for every buckle-term ranking.

03

Consolidate duplicate SKUs and the three BUMAX generations

Problem

The same product lives at 2–3 URLs.

Evidence

10 "-2" duplicates; BUMAX 88 at /products/bumax/bumax-88/ (pos 39.6) and /products/stainless/bumax-88-109/; GSC flags "Duplicate, Google chose different canonical".

Action

Keep one URL per SKU (the descriptive-title version), 301 the rest, merge copy, and put each SKU in one primary category. Make /bumax-fasteners/ the BUMAX hub linking every grade and SKU; fold /brand-bumax/ into /brands/bumax/.

Expected impact

Stops signal splitting; immediate for the BUMAX line.

04

Turn product pages into spec pages

Problem

257 pages under 300 words, no specs, no schema, templated text.

Evidence

0 tables, 0 PDFs, 0 Product schema, 46 duplicate metas, identical opening sentences across SKUs; competitors run 735–3,316 words with tables/PDF/CAD.

Action

Add a spec table, datasheet PDF link, Product + Offer schema, alt text, and a unique 150–250-word application paragraph per SKU; unique keyword-led title. Do the 69 new SKUs and 15 striking-distance SKUs first.

Expected impact

Converts impressions already earned (7.4K/quarter) into clicks and makes rich results possible.

05

Wire the blog to the catalog

Problem

83% of clicks never reach a product.

Evidence

11 of 273 posts link to any product/category; 254/257 products have zero blog links; all 69 new SKUs zero.

Action

Add contextual links from the top-30 blog posts to the matching category and SKUs; add a "Buy/spec this part" module to the blog template.

Expected impact

Passes the site's only real authority to the pages that need it — fastest ranking movement for pages already at positions 5–20.

06

Put the conversion path on the product page

Problem

No way to act on the page.

Evidence

0 forms on 257 product pages; CTA is the global header link; GA4 does not count the native form submit as a key event.

Action

Embed a short RFQ form (part, qty, material/finish, drawing upload) on every product and category page; show stock/lead-time/MOQ; mark form_submit as a GA4 key event with page attribution.

Expected impact

Leads become measurable, giving the report's core question a denominator.

07

Retarget the launched lines at the queries buyers actually use

Problem

SKU-named pages chase 20–70/mo brand terms owned by the brand owners.

Evidence

bumax-fasteners.com holds 5 of the top 10 for "bumax 88"; na.itwnexus.com #1 for "itw nexus buckles"; CSG's BUMAX impressions are half German.

Action

Position CSG pages as the US stocking distributor and target application terms (side release buckle, cam buckle, cobra buckle, clinch nuts) on category pages; confirm US targeting in GSC.

Expected impact

Moves the lines from unwinnable brand SERPs to winnable spec/application SERPs.

08

Stop the spam link growth and earn product-level links

Problem

DR 20 vs 30–38 for competitors; product pages have no referring domains.

Evidence

+370 ref. domains in 6 months, several SPAM-flagged (backlinker.shop, buybacklinks.agency, rank-your.site, factmags.com, prospeo.io); home page 479 nofollow vs 95 dofollow.

Action

Do not buy or accept spam links; get listed on brand owners' distributor pages, submit calculators to engineering directories, pursue 5–10 links to category pages from industry publications.

Expected impact

Closes the authority gap on the pages that need it; points off-page work at category URLs, not the home page.

09

Rewrite titles/metas for the 12 striking-distance URLs and the /products/ hub

Problem

393- and 287-impression pages sit at positions 8–10 with 0 clicks.

Evidence

/products/ 1,460 impressions at pos 13 with 2 clicks; "spherical washers" 485 impressions at 31.9.

Action

Keyword-led title + benefit meta + spec line for each, e.g. "Structural Fasteners – A325/A490/F3125 Bolts, US Stock | CSG".

Expected impact

Cheap, measurable within 4 weeks; expected to double product clicks from a near-zero base.

10

Build the missing supporting content for each launched line

Problem

No topical cluster around buckles or stainless grades.

Evidence

Ahrefs top pages are all thread/torque guides; competitors publish grade guides (bumax-fasteners.com/bumax-grades) and buckle selection guides (johnhowardcompany, 1,896 words).

Action

6–8 guides — BUMAX grade comparison, marine grade selection, buckle-type comparison, MIL-spec materials, cobra vs polymer buckles — each linking to the category and SKUs.

Expected impact

Builds the authority Google needs to rank the category pages; complements items 1 and 5.

10 · Action plan

Three phases, each gated — nothing moves to the next until its gate passes.

Phase 1

Weeks 1–2 · dev + SEO
  • Fix buckle canonicals/404s and sitemap (rec 2)
  • 301 the 10 duplicate SKUs and merge BUMAX generations (rec 3)
  • Write 32 category metas + replace 30 "Archives" titles
  • Rewrite 12 striking-distance product titles/metas + /products/ hub (rec 9)
  • Mark GA4 form_submit key event (rec 6, part)
Exit gate: GSC shows the 6 category URLs indexed with self-canonical; duplicate URLs drop from the index.

Phase 2

Weeks 3–6 · template + content
  • Product template with spec table, datasheet link, Product schema, on-page RFQ (recs 4, 6)
  • Rewrite the 69 new SKUs + 15 striking-distance SKUs
  • Build 7 priority category pages (rec 1)
  • Add blog→catalog links on the top 30 posts (rec 5)
Exit gate: product-page impressions exceed 2x the Jun–Aug baseline (2,273–2,856/month) and product clicks exceed 50/month.

Phase 3

Weeks 7–12 · authority
  • Distributor listings with brand owners, 6–8 supporting guides, 5–10 editorial links to category pages (recs 8, 10)
  • Retarget BUMAX/ITW copy to US-distributor and application terms (rec 7)
Exit gate: at least three category pages on page 1 for their head term; first attributed organic RFQs from product/category pages.

Measurement: re-pull the same GSC filters (contains /products/, /products/bumax/, buckle regex) and the Ahrefs top-pages report monthly — the baseline in this report is the comparison point.
